{"id":13532,"date":"2020-09-14T09:20:39","date_gmt":"2020-09-14T09:20:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.improvemysearchranking.com\/?p=13532"},"modified":"2023-12-05T11:31:11","modified_gmt":"2023-12-05T11:31:11","slug":"google-show-less-search-term-query-data-google-ads-advertisers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.improvemysearchranking.com\/google-show-less-search-term-query-data-google-ads-advertisers\/","title":{"rendered":"Google to show less search term query data to Google Ads advertisers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Google recently slipped an update that will likely irk most Google Ads advertisers and SEMs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to this update, Google will show less search term query data and will instead only show the terms that were searched by a lot of people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here is what a notification by Google said:<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe are updating the search terms report to only include terms that were searched by a significant number of users.\u00a0 As a result, you may see fewer terms in your report going forward.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its impact on how SEMs optimize their campaigns and keep everything more cost-effective is quite significant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When Google says the new search term report will only include \u201cterms that were searched by a significant number of users\u201d, it is sort of pointless. Because most of the clicks are relevant anyway. It is the outliers \u2014 a smaller number of people \u2014 who bring irrelevant clicks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And that\u2019s what you need to add to your negative keyword lists. By taking away this ability, advertisers will end up spending more money on irrelevant clicks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a result, we may see:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lower conversion rates<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Increase cost per conversion<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moreover, this will be most damaging for SEMs and digital advertisers who are in industries with very high cost per click (CPC). These industries include transportation, legal, tech, doctor, local services, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seerinteractive.com\/blog\/google-ads-removes-search-terms-for-28-percent-of-paid-search-budgets\/#:~:text=Google%20Ads%20Started%20Reducing%20Search%20Term%20Data%20for%20All%20Advertisers%20Today&amp;text=On%20Google's%20Search%20Terms%20Report,a%20term%20received%20a%20click.\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seer Interactive recently analyzed their account<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and saw that as much as 28 percent of their search terms have been removed by Google \u2014 which is quite significant and not ideal for advertisers at all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to their analysis:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prior to the update by Google, 100,000 clicks got them search term data for 98,300 clicks.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After the update, they see search term data for 77,900 for 100,000 clicks.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Approximately $27,000 worth of search term data (for a $100,000 spend) is gone from their account.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And people are very concerned.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What\u2019s next?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Going forward, this is something that you will have to account for making PPC reports for your company or clients.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It would also be a good idea to explain this change to your boss or client.
